Finding the Stairs

In this, our second in a new series of posts exploring some of the many opportunities available to artists of all levels of experience, we bring you some choice precipices from which you may choose to launch your next step. Whether or not you win is beside the point, simply applying and making the process part of your regular practice is a huge step toward running a well-rounded art career. Odds are you will apply to many residencies, grants, and other opportunities before being accepted and this is absolutely normal. What is most important is that you do not allow “no” to deter you from pursuing the path you know you’re meant to be on.

Artrooms London invites artists from around the world to submit for the chance to exhibit their work in one of the approximately 20 square meter spaces available near London’s Regent Park. There is a 20 pound application fee but all 70 selected artists will be provided exhibition space free of charge. For complete eligibility and how to apply, visit the website. Deadline is May 31.

Un_Becoming invites submissions for their group exhibition exploring the following:
The overlapping of sexualized and gendered bodies with technology.
• The intersections between transhumanism and/or critical posthumanism with technology, pornography and eroticism.
• The spectrum of darkness and lightness that interweaves dystopian and utopian perspectives on our technologically mediated view of sexuality, and society more broadly.

The Festival les Instants Video is holding a call for participation from video artists around the world. The festival focuses on video art and electronic poetry. For details about this year’s festival call and submission guidelines, visit the website. Deadline is June 1.

The Pierre & Alexandra Boulat Grant is awarded to photographers wishing to created journalistic work based on social, economic, political, or cultural issues. The award is open to photographers from around the world of all experience levels. The recipient receives 8,000 euros in funding from the grant foundation.
