Don’t Waste It

“No space of regret can make amends for one life’s opportunity misused”

-Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

Some opportunities don’t circle back, but that’s exactly what makes the ones before us so powerful. Each day offers a fresh doorway, a chance to step toward something we’ve been putting off or quietly wishing for. Instead of dwelling on the past, we can choose to notice what’s happening now, small invitations, unexpected sparks, tiny shifts that point toward possibility.

Keiran Brennan Hinton rejoined us recently, having sat down with Praxis about three years ago to discuss a different exhibition. This time, we talked about Change of Scenery, his recent show at Charles Moffett. Whereas previous work often depicted domestic scenes, this body of work represents scenery from Hinton’s recent travels, a way to engage with places he is not immediately familiar with. Clare Grill chatted with us about Parlance, her recent show at Derek Eller Gallery. The large-scale work in the series, one of which is the largest work Grill has ever made, do not come from sketches. The works on paper are loose impressions of antique embroidery samplers, objects Grill collects and describes as complicated artifacts of women’s history.
