Give It A Minute

“Time makes more converts than reason.” -Thomas Paine, Common Sense

Some things in life don’t click all at once. A conversation you had months ago, an idea you weren’t sure about, a tiny nudge you brushed off…and then one day, suddenly, it all makes perfect sense. Time has a way of doing the heavy lifting for us. Here’s your gentle reminder that you don’t need to force every decision, rush every insight, or solve every puzzle right this minute.

Lamar Peterson joined us to discuss The View From Outside his recent exhibition at Fredericks and Freiser. The current body of work began in the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder as Peterson sought out what gives him solace. The paintings depict Black men enjoying small but wonderful pleasures like gardening, cooking meals, or simply being in one’s own home. To learn more, listen to the complete interview.

Katy Stone talked to us about Terrains, her recent show at Ryan Lee Gallery. Like much of her work, the exhibition was expansive and immersive, very much a collective of the entire body of work rather than focusing on individual pieces. Early in her career, she would create on site, but over the years, she has developed a meticulous process that allows the work to be ultimately installed by others. To hear about this process and more, listen to the complete interview.
