Are You Awake?

The world is a large and diverse place. It is all too easy to get siloed in your little corner and forget that there is a breadth of experiences and cultures beyond what your mind can comprehend. Every inch of the planet has its own history and every human who walks along this earth has a story to tell. As an artist, you are an important story teller. And as such, it is your duty to get out in the world and experience the stories of others. Here are a few opportunities to get you thinking outside the bubble – and one of them is a flash opportunity meaning the deadline is within the next few days. Because sometimes it’s necessary to jar our senses into action.

Visual AIDS invites artist to submit comics for consideration for the 2020 Visual AIDS exhibition. This project is intended to spark a dialogue about HIV/AIDS, engage in activism, support those living with HIV/AIDS and educate. All proposals must be in English. There is one time stipend of $500 for chosen artists. For complete information, visit the website. Deadline is December 20.

Visual artists working across various media are invited to apply for residency at the Montresso Art Foundation in Marrakech, Morocco. Artists of Moroccan or foreign nationality are encouraged to apply. Residency lasts from one to three months and artists will stay in a private or shared room. For further details, visit the website. Beam Camp, located in Strafford, New Hampshire, invites artists to submit their big ideas. This specialized summer camp is aimed at building and collaboration. Each session is devoted to building a collaborative, large-scale project, many of which have received international media exposure. There is a one time materials budget as well as a stipend available for those selected to participate. For more information, visit the website. Application deadline is January 7.

At Praxis Center, we believe in being citizens of the entire world.
