Some resources are so plentiful they warrant their own spotlight. Such is the case with Banff Centre, located among the spectacular mountains of Alberta, Canada. There, creatives of all types come together for learning experiences in a supporting, nurturing environment. The centre has a full menu of programming throughout the year, including talks, exhibitions, workshops and residencies of all varieties. There is something for every artist there, so check out this encore blog (we wrote about it last spring, too) dedicated to this incredible place and see what Banff might mean for you.
“Kinship Medicines is a thematic residency for queer, trans, and two-spirited Indigenous writers and visual artists who are enacting kinship ethics in their practices, particularly around discussions of gender, sex, and the queer-trans Indigenous futures movement.” The residency takes place at Banff Centre during mid-April to mid-May. Those interested should visit the website for more information. Deadline for applications is February 26.
Artists interested in summer residency at Banff Centre are invited to apply. This program is designed to allow visual artists to focus on their own practice in a supportive learning environment. Networking opportunities abound, and artists are invited to attend exhibitions, talks and performances as well as host studio visits from guest artists. For full details and to apply, visit the website. Deadline is March 4.
Those interested in exploring how to rethink our relationship with plastics are invited to apply to the Plastics Residency at Banff Centre. In their own “Plastic is one of the most intimate manifestations of our connections with oil, as it is used in everything from baby bottles to sex toys.
