Do You Know What You Don’t Know?

If you know where to look, opportunity abounds. But much as in any other career field, there is no reason that an understanding of the art world and how to navigate should be innate. There is perhaps sometimes an expectation that those who choose to work within this field should somehow arrive with the knowledge and tools to succeed without even trying. But this is just like any other pursuit that takes hard work, patience, education (well beyond a studio education), resources and, importantly, time. A career is possible. Just set your expectations correctly and be willing to learn and fail a bit. Here are a few opportunities to get you going.

LIBERATED FORMS 2024 celebrates diversity and desire with body and sex-positive art. Submissions are being accepted for this exhibition at The Studio Door (San Diego, CA) August 8-31 for ages 18+ with ID. For more information, visit the website. Deadline is July 6.

Artists are invited to retreat to Banff for quiet reflection, nature connection, and engagement, exploring art’s purpose and impact in a supportive environment with abundant studio time. All art forms are welcome. Visit the website for more information. Residency application deadline is July 10.

Terrain Gallery in Spokane, Washington has a number of open calls. Visit the website for more information. Deadlines vary.

Praxis Center fully believes in artists’ ability to make their way. We know it’s possible because we’ve seen it again and again. But we are also acutely aware that a successful art career doesn’t just happen. That’s why we gather the resources, tools, experts, and more needed to help artists achieve their dreams. Let Praxis help you unlock the art world.
