Stay The Course

Perseverance is key for any artist wishing to build a career. The road is long and often difficult, but that is no reason to turn back. Anything worth achieving is bound to have its obstacles and a career doing something you truly love is well worth achieving. Stay the course no matter what, through rejection and uncertainty. See it through because we each only get one life, one chance to do the things that make us feel fulfilled.

The ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe and the Deutsches Museum announce an open call to artists interested in a dual residency at both facilities. The Intelligent Museum invites artists who apply machine learning, especially Deep Learning, in their practice. The call is open to artists in all genres. There is a monthly stipend for a maximum of three months as well as a budget for materials. For more information, visit the website. Deadline for proposals is February 28.

Artists interested in transdisciplinary research are invited to apply for residency at the Institute of Geography at the University of Bern. The theme for this residency is un/certain calibrations – artists are asked to use the idea of calibrations as a starting point for further reflection. The COAL Prize is currently accepting submissions from artists under the theme of forests. Last year’s prize explored biodiversity and this year artists are asked to consider forests as they sit at the center of the climate crisis and ecological transition. The winning artists will receive 10,000 euros. For more information, visit the website. Deadline for submissions is March 1.
