Despite our best efforts, plans have a way of changing or being foiled completely. During times of financial intensity, it can be tempting to throw in the towel, decide that all those voices from your past were right – that artists really can’t make it. Take a breath. Challenge yourself to think outside the box, so to speak. Sure, you may not be able to give it all up tomorrow and become a full-time artist, but that does not meant there aren’t ample opportunities to move you forward and help you grow. Native Arts and Cultures Foundation’s LIFT program offers 15 emerging Native artists $15,000 awards, mentorship, and professional support to develop new projects advancing cultural sovereignty, social and environmental justice, community well-being, and future Native creative practices. Art Student’s League of Denver’s Visiting Artist Series brings global artists to Denver to expand artistic perspectives. Its Color Scheme Residency supports underrepresented artists with a 7-month studio residency, stipend, teaching opportunities, community engagement, and a culminating exhibition.
