You’re doing great. No matter what obstacles stand in your way, that you are here, reading these words now means that your path has brought you in the direction of a career in art. It can feel intimidating to pursue this path. We are made to believe that the arts are not a place where success can be found. But there are many things in life that are sadly misunderstood, often inhibiting those who believe in them. So be proud in this moment that you’re taking the time to move forward in your pursuit of an art career. And read on for a few opportunities to keep you going.

For over forty years, Arts/Industry has linked artists with Kohler Co.’s resources, technology, and materials, offering a space to explore fresh ideas. Artists from all fields can apply. Twelve artists annually secure residencies in Pottery or Foundry areas through a competitive jury process. No prior experience is necessary; just a passion for creating new work. The three-month residencies, divided into three cohorts, provide 24-hour studio access, industrial materials, equipment use, technical support, housing, transportation, and a weekly stipend. For more information and to apply, visit the website. Deadline for applications is February 1.

Artists at Wave Farm’s 10-day residency create transmission artworks using the research library, equipment, and on-site support. In 2024, the program focuses on “Live Performance for an Expanded Studio Audience,” concluding with a public event and live radio broadcast on WGXC 90.7-FM. Residents receive a $1,000 artist fee. For over 50 years, the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown has nurtured emerging writers and artists. Through a rigorous jury process, fellows receive a private apartment, a 400 sq ft work studio, a $1250 monthly stipend, and a $1000 exit stipend.
