Here in the northeast U.S., summer is loosening its grip and the first hints of autumn are starting to settle. This a good time to think about what keeps us curious, hopeful, and creatively alive. A little imagination can go a long way toward seeing possibility where others might not. Maybe that’s it’s own kind of magic.
Maia Cruz Palileo joined us to talk about The World Tangled in You, which runs until October 24 at David Kordansky Gallery. The title comes from a poem by Shirley Ancheta. It was the word tangled that specifically resonated with the work combined with the idea of the title speaking to the viewer and the concept of the world at large, something that is often on Cruz Palileo’s mind of late. Julian MacMillan sat down with us to discuss Birdbath, his show at The Hole, which was on view in April and May of this year. When titling the show, MacMillan considered how to structure the show, landing on two bodies of connected work – one featuring the surface of water and the other having birds as a focus. Having long wanted to include a water feature in a show, he knew this was also the moment for that. To learn more, listen to the complete interview.
