Do You Know About This???

You may recall that last week we directed your attention to a residency within the National Parks system of the US. This is not an isolated opportunity, in fact there is a national network of residencies in national parks across the country. You can become an AIR in places as diverse as the barren desert or the arctic wilderness. Read on for a handful of National Park opportunities coming your way in the not-so-distant future.

Death Valley National Park invites artists to apply for their 2020 residency. Those selected will stay in historic Stovepipe Village and receive a $2000 stipend. Spend the month of January surrounded by alien beauty in the heart of the desert. Although Death Valley is one of the hottest places in North America, January is the ideal time of year to visit as the temperatures get into the 70s. Please be advised that this is a no studio residency. Artists work en plein air or in their lodgings. Application deadline is March 10.

Denali National Park in Alaska seeks a diverse selection of artists, writers and musicians for its 2020 residency cycle. If you decide to apply, be prepared to write an explanation of a proposed public outreach program to be completed during your residency period as well as another once returned home following the residency. For full details, visit the website. Applications open on June 1.

Arizona’s Petrified Forest National Park asks those interested in residency to apply for the 2020 program. In addition to offering two public programs during the residency period, each selected artist is expected to donate a work to the park that is representative of their residency period there. For full details and to apply, visit the website. Applications open June 1.
