Does Your Art Matter?

Your art is important. That’s why you owe it to your art and to yourself to pursue a career and get this work out into the world. Turning your passion into a living takes determination and a fair bit of work, but it can be done. There are endless resources out there, opportunities to help you advance toward the life you’ve always dreamed of. Finding these opportunities is the first step, after that, it is up to you to pursue each one never letting something as trivial as a rejection stand in your way. Dust off and keep going.

Artists and authors alike are invited to submit their work to the Compostela International Prize for Picture Books. Entries must either be in the form of a book that tells a story through pictures alone or with complementing pictures and text. There is a single cash prize for the winning entry and rights for the first edition must be transferred to the publisher. For more information, visit the website. Deadline for entries is May 14.

Artists are among the list of creatives invited by KÖR – Kunst im öffentlichen Raum, to submit their work to an open call titled The Weather of Tomorrow. Work should investigate this topic in terms of how climate change stands to affect not only the physical climate, but the social as well. For more information, visit the website. PHOTO IS:RAEL invites international photographers to submit their work to an open call titled Meeting Point. In their own words, “After a year in which the daily meetings we’d taken for granted were canceled or transformed, the concept of a “Meeting Point” has become ever more significant. At the upcoming festival we will seek to explore this concept from a variety of angles and interpretations, using innovative methods of representation through photography and other forms of media.” For more information and to submit your work, visit the website.
