The weight of creating can follow us everywhere. We carry unfinished ideas, self-doubt, rejection, and the worry that we’re falling behind. But then there’s a shift, sometimes with no warning. A fresh perspective appears, a new opportunity catches our eye, or inspiration returns in the smallest of moments. The challenges haven’t disappeared, but they don’t have the final word.
Lola Stong-Brett joined us to talk about Sometime Somewhere Someone is Dancing, her exhibition of large works at James Fuentes Gallery. The title of the show comes from one of the artist’s own poems, written during a residency where participants were asked to compose a poem every week for 14 months. Meena Hasan sat down to talk about many things, including her work in the group show Interstitial, which runs until August 27 at Deanna Evans Projects and explores the intersection of painting and textiles.
