Have You Lost Your Spark?

In a cold and frozen world, where do you find the spark? For an artist, this is a question that must be pursued. There is no time of year, for those who choose to make their living in the arts, when inspiration should not be sought. Take time, make time in your days, weeks and months to seek out those opportunities that will ignite in you the next creative fire. Find ways to bring your art to the world and develop not only your career itself but your skills and abilities as an artist.

The StudioWorks Artist-in-Residence Program at the Tides Museum of Art (TIMA) invites artists to apply for residency. This opportunity is open to U.S. and international artists and is intended to deepen and develop their practice within a community setting in the far-flung coastal Maine town of Eastport. For more information and to apply, visit the website. Deadline for submissions is February 1.

The Virginia A. Groot Foundation offers three grants to artists with exceptional talent and ability in ceramic sculpture or sculpture. Grant amounts are up to $60K, $30K and $20K. Artists may be at any state of their career and must be 21 years or older at the time of application deadline. For more information, visit the website. Deadline for submissions is February 1.

Locust Projects invites artists to submit for consideration in the Project Room Open Call Opportunity. This is the chance to exhibit installation-based work created specifically for Locust Projects Project Room, an approximately 400 square foot space. There is a maximum production budget of $3500, a $1500 artist fee and a $30 per diem stipend for out of town artists for up to 10 days. For more information – including floorplan – and to submit your proposal, visit the website. Deadline for submissions is February 5.
