Expanding your horizons takes work. It takes courage and the willingness to accept no for an answer more than once before you find the opportunities that are right for you. Every artist should experience residency in their career, it is a critical component that not only gives you needed experience, but opens a window into the lives of other artists and helps to build your network. These things are all key pieces of a successful art career. Here are three upcoming deadlines (one is a last minute flash call) for opportunities to expand your horizons in the coming weeks and months.
Last minute call “MiXER is a cross-disciplinary collaboration experiment or as we call it “a playground” where artists from diverse art disciplines and cultural backgrounds are encouraged to engage, share methodologies and inspire each other.” They invite artists to submit to this last minute call for collaboration during the month of August. For complete details, visit the website. Deadline is July 18.
The Critical Feedbak Program at Trestle offers artists the chance to receive peer support and feedback from professionals for six months to a year. Studio space is also available for a discounted fee. This opportunity connects artists to a wider community and provides pop-up and exhibition possibilities. There is a small fee to apply. For more details, visit the website. Deadline is August 15.
Arts, Letters & Numbers describes itself as “a place of creative urgency and intensity of purpose, a place to create new linkages, new thought processes, new path- ways of understanding that embody our best hopes and aspirations. It is a place where many elements come together to co-construct questions and works, of empathy, of ethics, of imagination; it is a place to explore the nuanced fragilities in our shared stories.” There are a number of residency opportunities and some scholarships available to help with residency costs.
