Need a Little Hope?

Let’s think beyond the confines of home. There is still a world out there that needs artists to help inform the truth about our present moment, our past, the path we forge together into the future. In the midst of uncertainty, it is the artists who provide perspective, comfort and hope. No emergency is too great, no moment too wide in scope to deter the artists from fulfilling their calling. Below are a few opportunities to consider.

Artists interested in photography through the microscope are encourage to enter the Nikon Small World competition. There are two categories, Small World and Small World in Motion. Each offers a variety of cash prizes for selected artists. For more information and to enter, visit the website. Deadline is April 30.

Queer artists are invited to send new or existing work for consideration in the upcoming online exhibition Queer Visions x Uncertain Times. This will mark the beginning of the Art Dream Foundation, an artist run gallery and collaborative project between two artists from Kosovo based in London and Zurich. For more information about this new initiative, visit the website. Deadline for submissions is April 30.

Fundaziun Nairs invites artists interested in residency in Switzerland to apply for the 2021 cycle. A wide variety of artistic disciplines are eligible and up to 30 artists are chosen by a jury to participate. There is some funding available. For more information and to apply, visit the website. Praxis Center is here through thick and thin, through dark and light, to support and nurture artists at every stage of their careers. We know that at a time like this it can be hard to see beyond the confines of the present emergency (not to mention the confines of our own walls) but we remind you that there is art after (and during!) a crisis and there is life beyond the present. Grab hold.
