Upcoming grant deadline
Phileas is currently accepting applications for its 2018 grant season. Applications support ambitious contemporary art by Austrian and international artists. Applications must be submitted through an institution though grants can fund exhibition of a solo artist. Deadline is July 21.
Open Calls, Residencies, News Digest and Research Sources
Open Call For Donation: D’art for Art is an annual event to benefit Crooked Tree Arts Center. Presently there is an open call for artists interested in donating a piece of art to this fundraising event. In exchange for donation, artists receive a listing in the D’art for Art full color catalog including contact info and up to three gallery listings where exhibits can be found. Donating artists also receive invitations to special events leading up to the gala. Deadline for entry is June 23.
Artists are invited to visually represent the man and the music of Fryderyk Chopin. The Fryderyk Chopin Institute has run the annual contest since 1927. Artists may submit up to three drawings and cash prizes are awarded to first through third place winners. Deadline for submission is June 30.
Poster for Tomorrow has a call for entries to its 2017 Communication Poster project. The theme for this year’s competition is Freedom of Movement. 100 Designs will be selected for inclusion in an exhibition. A book will be made about the exhibit and each selected artist receives a copy. Deadline for submission is July 10.
Blooom Award invites artists around the world who are 18 years of age or older to apply for their year-long mentorship and arts prize. Winners are actively supported in their careers including mentorship under one of the jury members. Artists are also sent to Art Basel in Miami or Hong Kong and given a generous spending stipend. At the culmination of the year-long journey, all ten finalists are eligible to exhibit at the BLOOOM art show in Germany. Deadline for submissions is July 31.

Artist Mends Broken Sculptures Using Bees

Artist Aganetha Dyke gives new life to broken sculptures in a most unusual way. The artist places the broken artwork in bee hives and lets nature take the lead. The bees construct elaborate combs around the fragmented pieces, mending and incorporating the art into their hives.
Art Basel Spotlights LGBT Causes

With Art Basel falling during a turbulent time for LGBT rights in the US and beyond, organizers have taken up the cause. Throughout the event there is a thread of Pride and a championing of LGBT issues.
