Time to Take the Plunge?

It isn’t easy to ask for what you need. But as a career artist, there will be numerous occasions when you find overcoming the discomfort of the ask can pay off in big ways. Whether it’s communicating with a gallery owner for the first time, completing an application for an opportunity you feel is out of reach (which is not to say that it is out of reach!) or asking for funding from potential patrons and sponsors, there are many ways in which overcoming your obstacles can produce big benefits. Take the story of Praxis student Sarah who reached out when she had a particular need and was pleasantly surprised by the results. In her own words:

I put out letters to local businesses to sponsor my upcoming Bay Area performance of my one-woman show and so far one has said yes to $100 sponsorship and one for $200. I’m so excited this is working! That covers half of my production cost.

Praxis Center takes great care in nurturing our students through those aspects of a career in art that are less comfortable, even intimidating. When you join Praxis you receive our full suite of courses and access to our virtual classroom where we offer additional support as well as a community of colleagues all banding together to navigate the often thorny path of an artistic career.
