There are still some weeks of summer left to go, but now is the time to start planning the next phase. For career artists, the calendar year should be filled with opportunities to further advance your standing in the art world and as an art practitioner. Funding and residencies are two ways to accomplish these goals, and both can be found in abundance all year long. As always, we provide a handful to get you started.

Did you know that our National Parks system offers residencies for artists who wish to spend time immersed in the natural beauty of our nation? Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is currently accepting applications for artists who are interested in a residency spent among lava flows, rainforests and beaches. The Alliance for California Traditional Arts is offering grants between $1,500 and $15,000 for San Francisco-based individuals and organizations. These one-year grants will support projects that foster artistic expression deeply rooted in and reflective of historically marginalized communities. For further info and to apply, visit the website. Artists Trust is currently accepting applications for the 2021 GAP artist grant. This merit-and-need-based unrestricted grant aims to help further the progress of BIPOC artists across Washington State. For full details and to apply, visit the website. Deadline for applications is September 2.
