What Is The Best Gift You Can Give Yourself?

What better way to celebrate the end of a difficult year than with the gift of opportunity? As the holidays approach, we find ourselves looking at a changed landscape, one where we may not be able to do the things we usually do to mark important occasions. Use this altered time and space to your advantage by seeking out and applying for opportunities to carry you into 2021. Here are a few to get you started.

The Cultural Arts Alliance is calling on all members to submit their work for the 2020-2021 Winter Rotation at the Foster Gallery located in Grand Boulevard, Miramar Beach, Florida. Selected artists must be available to meet a set of in-person criteria in order to have their work shown. For the complete details, visit the website. Deadline is November 29.

There are several exciting opportunities from Antenna in New Orleans, Louisiana at the moment. “You can apply for the opportunity to exhibit at Antenna Gallery, have a book published by Antenna’s Paper Machine, or have a month long residency at the Paper Machine publishing center. All opportunities provide creators with both financial and logistical support!” Visit the website for more information. Deadline is November 30.

Knockdown Center in Maspeth, NY is currently seeking submissions for group gallery exhibitions, solo exhibitions and installations in the gallery and short-term main space projects. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the guidelines before submitting your work. Full details can be found at the website. Deadline for submissions is December 6.

Praxis Center is here for artists through the good times and the bad. We understand that life doesn’t always serve up exactly what we hope for but that doesn’t mean we can’t use whatever we are given as a way to move forward. There is a sliver of opportunity in even the greatest obstacles if you know where to look. This year has found us all stuck in one place for long stretches of time, but for artists we have heard again and again that this might not have been the worst case scenario. As we approach these strange holidays, give yourself the gift of a renewed outlook on seeking – and applying for – opportunities to move you forward.
