Upcoming grant deadline
Phileas is currently accepting applications for its 2018 grant season. Applications support ambitious contemporary art by Austrian and international artists. Applications must be submitted through an institution though grants can fund exhibition of a solo artist. Deadline is July 21.
Open Calls, Residencies, News Digest and Research Source
Artists are invited to visually represent the man and the music of Fryderyk Chopin. The Fryderyk Chopin Institute has run the annual contest since 1927. Artists may submit up to three drawings and cash prizes are awarded to first through third place winners. Deadline for submission is June 30.
Poster for Tomorrow has a call for entries to its 2017 Communication Poster project. The theme for this year’s competition is Freedom of Movement. 100 Designs will be selected for inclusion in an exhibition. A book will be made about the exhibit and each selected artist receives a copy. Deadline for submission is July 10.
Blooom Award invites artists around the world who are 18 years of age or older to apply for their year-long mentorship and arts prize. Winners are actively supported in their careers including mentorship under one of the jury members. Artists are also sent to Art Basel in Miami or Hong Kong and given a generous spending stipend. At the culmination of the year-long journey, all ten finalists are eligible to exhibit at the BLOOOM art show in Germany. Deadline for submissions is July 31.
Artists are invited to submit their work for consideration as part of World Cup 2018. This year’s theme for Tschutti Heftli’s illustration contest is footballer Diego Armando Maradona. You choose how to portay him and convince the judges that your art is worthy of becoming an international collector’s item. Deadline for submissions is August 31.

A duet of Los Angeles artists is installing pick your own fruit parks around the city. The sanctuaries are free to the public and will eventually bear a plethora of fresh fruit and berries to visitors across the urban parks.
US art scholar fights back at Modigliani knockoffs

In a sea of phonies, Kenneth Wayne is attempting to seek out and catalog a comprehensive collection of Modigliani paintings. The catalog is slated to be fully online later in 2017.
