Weekly Resources for Artists

This page is updated weekly with highlighted opportunities for grants, residencies, and open calls. In the resource list below you will see primary sources to do more research on a variety of topics that are of use to artists in all disciplines. Upcoming grant deadlines

Artist Grant believes that artists deserve to be financially supported just like those in every other field. To this end, grants of $500 are awarded every quarter. For more information and application details, keep an eye on their websites. The Clark Hulings Fund supports painters who work in traditional media. Grants are intended to support painters pursuing specific opportunities that would further their business prospects. U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible. Deadlines vary, applications must be made through Call for Entry. The Danish Arts Foundation offers grants to international artists interested in collaborating with Danish artists. Deadlines vary, see website for details. Artists residing in Washington State who are 18 years of age or older are invited to apply for grants through Artist Trust. Next round of applications opens in May of 2018 with a deadline of June 25.

More Grants

Harpo Foundation offers grants to under recognized artists. To submit you must be at least 21 years of age and there is a $15 fee for entry. Grants of up to $10,000 are awarded to multiple artists dependent on yearly budget. In order to receive further information about deadlines for submission, visit the website and sign up for email notifications.

The Coal Prize 2018 is currently accepting submissions from artists around the world. The winner receives 5,000 euros in prize money as well as a residency in Europe. For more details and application/eligibility requirements, visit their website. Deadline for submissions is July 31.

Aesthetica Magazine invites artists of all levels to apply for their yearly prize. Two categories are awarded, one to emerging artists who are either in school or within two years post graduation and another to artists of all experience levels. Artists may submit up to two works per entry fee. To see full eligibility requirements and award amounts, visit the website. Deadline for submissions is August 31.

The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation supports representational artists emerging artists who demonstrate a commitment to a lifelong career in the arts. Grants are awarded on an ongoing basis in the amounts of $15,000 and $18,000 Canadian. For more information and to apply, visit the foundation website. Deadlines are rolling.

Open Calls

The Rooms, Newfoundland accepts ongoing submissions from artists interested in having their artwork exhibited. All submissions must include CV and digital images. For further guidelines see the gallery website.

Getty Images in partnership with ARRAY Alliance offers financial support and mentorship to photographers and filmmakers who use their vision to highlight underrepresented populations and to create “diverse and inclusive visual stories.” For further details, visit the website. Deadline for submissions is June 8.

 

Independent curators, artits, and arts professionals are invited to submit their exhibiton concpets to The Clemente. All ages, genders, and nationalities are welcomed. See website for more details. Deadline is June 15.

GIRAF Festival of Independent Animation is an event run by the Quickdraw Animation Society in Calgary, Canada. They are currently accepting submissions for the 2018 festival from animation artists. GIRAF runs for three days in November. “Unique technologies, unique visions, and stimulating subject matter” are encouraged. Commercial work is not accepted but otherwise GIRAF is open to artists of every level and discipline. Deadline for submissions is July 15.

Blooom Award is Germany’s largest young international artist prize. The winner of Blooom receives mentorship, travel grants, stipend money, and exhibition opportunities. For full submission guidelines and further information about the award and its past recipients, visit the foundation website. Deadline for submissions is July 31.

 

Residencies

Bogliasco Foundation invites artists across multiple disciplines to apply for their spring 2019 fellowship along the bucolic coast of Genoa, Italy. Fellowship periods are one month long and include private quarters with bath and full board. Partners/spouses are invited to stay for a fee of $25/day. For more information, visit the foundation website. Deadline for spring 19 applications is April 15, 2018.

OT301 invites artists to Amsterdam for a three-month residency. The program facilitates low-cost rental accommodations and provides networking and exhibition opportunities. Rolling deadline.

Etc.

Nordic Art Association of Sweden hosts the website Studio Swap. Here artists can network internationally with the aim of arranging a temporary studio exchange.
