Get On With It

Being a career artist means forging ahead no matter what. Of course, we all need to take time for ourselves, to process and regroup or simply to enjoy some leisure time, but as someone who has chosen the track of a professional creative, it is up to you to stay the course when it comes to seeking out and acquiring new opportunities. Here are a few to get you started.

The Loewe Foundation announces an open call for its seventh Loewe Foundation Craft Prize. This international award is given to those demonstrating excellence in craftsmanship. The winning entry will receive 50,000 euros, and shortlisted works appear in an exhibition and catalogue in Paris 2024. For more information and to submit your work, visit the website. The Queens Museum is accepting applications for the sixth QM-Jerome Foundation Fellowship for Emerging Artists in New York City. In their own words:

Two visual artists will receive $20,000 each, individual studio space at the Queens Museum, professional development consultations, close mentorship from QM staff members, and a solo exhibition that will open in 2025. Fellows will move into the studios in January 2024 and will have access to studio space through January 2025.”

Wildacres Retreat is accepting applications for artist residency. Up to 70 artists each year complete one-week residency periods, staying in cabins onsite. There is no internet and typically no cell service, except at the main part of the retreat site where there is WiFi, allowing for solitude and focus.
