Answering the Call

If you know where to look, there are opportunities everywhere. The art world is absolutely full to the brim with calls for entry to juried shows, exhibitions festivals, and much more. And it doesn’t matter where you live in today’s digital world, if you have access to a decent camera and a computer, chances are you can submit to more opportunities than you could possibly attend all with a few simple clicks. So there is simply no excuse not to be getting your work out there. Read on for some upcoming calls and then get in the game!

The Carving Studio in West Rutland, Vermont invites sculptors to submit proposals for Sculpfest 2018. This year’s theme is Interdependence. All proposals must work off this theme of symbiotic existence. To submit, artists need to prepare a one page proposal, images of the intended work (sketches, digital images, etc.), a resume, up to ten images of previous work, and an artist statement. Unfinished Business Art Show based in Los Angeles, California invites parents of any age to submit to Art/Mother, an exhibition for artists with unfinished work due to the demands of raising a child. To apply artists must submit an artist statement as well as a few short essays describing the state of their work and the impediments they have met with while attempting to complete it. A small application fee does apply. Deadline for submissions is June 22.

Atlantic Gallery in New York City’s Chelsea Art District invites artists to submit to the juried show WHO. ARE. YOU. The theme asks artists to question how they represent themselves. Grand prize winner receives a solo exhibition at Atlantic Gallery. For more information, visit the website. Deadline for submissions is June 24.

University of West Florida invites artists to submit proposals for public sculpture expressing some aspect of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Mathematics). $500,000 in funding is available for up to six projects.
