Deep Freeze

This time of year can be tricky for some, depending on where you call home. The cold and dark have a funny way of dragging on our spirits, making us feel heavy and inclined to hibernate. It is imperative that you shake off winter lethargy and prepare for the season to come. Do not let your sleepy mind convince you that now is the time to slow to a pause. CSAV – Artist Research Laboratory is currently accepting submissions to an open call for the upcoming Casual Loops and Squiggles. This event brings together artists and curators and seeks to observe how this pairing influences the workshop. “CSAV – Artists’ Research Laboratory is an experimental platform designed to provoke formal and informal discussions and exchanges between artists of different generations and nationalities. It aims to explore different forms of artistic creation through non-institutional teaching methods.” For more details and to apply, visit the website. Tides Institute and Museum of Art (TIMA) invites artists to apply for their StudioWorks Artist-in-Residency program. Located in beautiful, coastal Eastport, Maine – a small fishing village situated in Washington County overlooking the New Brunswick, Canada border – this residency is open to any artists who will not be enrolled in an undergraduate or masters program during the time of residency. In their own words, “A StudioWorks residency provides an artist with a unique experience to play an active role in our creative community through socially engaged projects, educational outreach or public programming.” For full details and to apply, visit the website. Luminous Bodies is a two-week residency to create artworks that shed new light on the human body. The residency includes shared studios, critiques, gallery visits, guest artist talks and a closing exhibition. Facilities include a shared kitchen and ample common room space as well as studios, dark room, woodwork shop, library and more. This residency is located on an island where there is no grocery store, however there is a corner store with some food options. Be sure to see full details before applying. Deadline is February 1.
