Do You Know What It Takes?

Seeking out opportunities can take time – but it is time well spent. While your studio practice is of course the central part of your art career, equally important are the ways you sustain that practice and get the results into the world. This means finding outlets – whether funding sources, residencies, or exhibitions, they are all critical ways of ensuring your art career endures. Here are a few upcoming deadlines to keep you motivated.

The Joan Mitchell Center in New Orleans offers 6- or 10-week residencies with private studios, weekday meals, stipends, and professional development opportunities that connect artists with arts organizations and the local community. Learn more at the website. Deadline is May 29.

The Sonntag Grant for Photography and Replika Publishing invite global FLINTA artists to submit advanced photobook projects exploring innovative book forms, with publication, artist copies, and a Berlin launch awarded to one recipient. Visit the website for more information. Deadline for submissions is May 31.

The Oak Spring Garden Foundation Eliza Moore Fellowship awards $10,000 and a 2–5 week residency to early-career artists exploring plants, gardens, or landscapes through interdisciplinary, nature-focused creative work. For details, visit the website. Deadline is May 31.

Praxis Center exists to help artists understand the true ins and outs of a successful art career. We gather experts in the field, those who have been in the trenches themselves and know how the art world gears grind, to help nurture and enlighten you on the path toward the success in art you’ve always dreamed of.
