“Thought is the original source of all wealth, all success, all material gain, all great discoveries and inventions, and all achievement.”
-Claude M. Bristol, The Magic of Believing
What do you think of this? Bristol also famously said, “Undoubtedly, we become what we envisage.” Do you agree? Are we capable of manifesting a life with the power of thought, or are we simply bumped along by the fates, tossed from the crest of one of life’s waves to the next? Or is it a little of both? Of course, these are questions we will probably never answer for sure, but it is interesting to consider how we all come to the particular circumstances of our lives.
Izzy Barber joined us to discuss her current show, Clay Pigeons, on view at Charles Moffett Gallery until July 31. The work in the show was conceived and created during three separate month-long road trips. Barber would fly to a destination out west and spend time alone there before driving back. While she admits it was not the most financially sustainable practice, it allowed her the needed time to sit with her subjects. To learn more about her process and the work in this show, listen to the complete interview.
Andrej Bereta joined us in 2020 to reflect on his work in Bosnia. He discussed a geography initiative developed in collaboration with the European Union that explores land management and policy through a cultural and curatorial lens. He also shared why he stepped away from traditional curatorial practice to pursue this interdisciplinary work, describing it as an opportunity for change, reflection, and new perspectives. Listen to the full interview to hear more about his experience and the motivations behind this shift.
A Few Words to Keep in Your Pocket.
