How’s It Going So Far?

Are you feeling energized now that the new year has begun? Or did you pull lethargy and baggage with you from the year that just ended? Either answer – or something in between – are normal and OK. What matters most is that, no matter how you’re showing up, you are showing up. Being there is what is most important. Putting one foot in front of the other and making moves forward, no matter how incremental. Here are some upcoming deadlines to keep you going.

The Duncanson Artist-in-Residence will engage Cincinnati through public programs, education, and an exhibition at the Taft Museum, connecting their work with Robert S. Duncanson’s legacy. Residency includes an honorarium and per diem. To learn more, visit the website. Deadline for applications is January 31.

Woodstock AIR supports artists of color exploring photography, diversity, and social justice. Ten photographers receive a one-month residency in Woodstock, fostering creativity in dedicated studios and a historic environment. Visit the website for more information. Application deadline is January 31.

Submit your work for Under the Influence, a group show exploring how artists inspire one another, shaping art’s ongoing dialogue across time, movements, and styles. Visit the website to learn more. Submission deadline is February 1.

Praxis Center is built on the idea that art careers can and do succeed. But they take work – a lot of it. We nurture artists every step of the way, from the early days when the art world feels like a closed door, through those first successes, and even as artists reach mid-career and begin looking for change. We gather experts and resources from around the art world to help you understand how to turn your passion into something more. Give Praxis a try today and see how far it can take you.

Brainard Carey is an author, artist and educator. He is the director of Praxis Center for Aesthetics and is currently faculty at the School of Visual Arts in NYC.
