Is it Time to Embrace Intensity?

Being an artist means inviting intensity into your life in all forms. Whether that is the experience of putting your inner-most life front and center for all to see or giving yourself to residency, there is no way around the fact that art is an all-in sort of endeavor. This week we present two residencies that offer different sorts of intensity. One is quite lengthy in duration and the other takes place surrounded by a viewing public. Both offer the chance to push the envelope and develop yourself and your career in unimaginable ways.

Storm King invites artists to apply for their no fee residency program, Shandaken: Storm King. The residency description is as follows:

“The residencies are designed to honor experimentation and process. Part of the program experience is living on the Storm King Art Center grounds, working in the garden, being surrounded by the field, and woodland, and living with the rich history of the Hudson Valley region. Applicants may apply for a residency that lasts two to six weeks, at their discretion.”

Residency includes shared housing. See website for further details. Deadline is February 18.

Munson Williams Proctor Arts Institute is accepting applications for residency in photography and painting/drawing. According to the website:

“The AIR program is designed for emerging artists or recent visual arts MFA graduates interested in art education on both a community and college level while receiving support to develop a vibrant, self-directed studio practice. Programming includes presenting a lecture to PrattMWP students and the public, teaching community arts education classes, holding a public open studio event, and designing and implementing accessible community projects at the Museum of Art. Artists receive financial support, housing, meals, studio, and two-person exhibition in the museum’s PrattMWP Gallery.”

Residency period is nine months. A furnished apartment and stipend are available. Please see the website for complete details and to apply. Deadline is February 25.

Praxis Center is here for you through it all. Whether you are just setting a toe in the water to see whether this is right for you, or you’ve decided it’s time for full-on intensity, we exist to support artists on every step of the journey.
