Let’s Talk Brass Tacks

Let’s talk about opportunities. As you may or may not know, Praxis Center maintains a curated page of artist opportunities. While we try to highlight those that are free of charge, sometimes small fees may apply. You can use this resources page to locate grants, residencies, open calls, and more. Think of it as a way to put to use all those skills you’re building all the time as you work your way through the Praxis courses.

The Rooms, Newfoundland accepts ongoing submissions from artists interested in having their artwork exhibited. All submissions must include CV and digital images. For further guidelines see the gallery website.

Harpo Foundation offers grants to under recognized artists. To submit you must be at least 21 years of age and there is a $15 fee for entry. Grants of up to $10,000 are awarded to multiple artists dependent on yearly budget. In order to receive further information about deadlines for submission, visit the website and sign up for email notifications.

Getty Images in partnership with ARRAY Alliance offers financial support and mentorship to photographers and filmmakers who use their vision to highlight underrepresented populations and to create “diverse and inclusive visual stories.” For further details, visit the website. Deadline for submissions is June 8.

GIRAF Festival of Independent Animation is an event run by the Quickdraw Animation Society in Calgary, Canada. They are currently accepting submissions for the 2018 festival from animation artists. GIRAF runs for three days in November. “Unique technologies, unique visions, and stimulating subject matter” are encouraged. Commercial work is not accepted but otherwise GIRAF is open to artists of every level and discipline. Deadline for submissions is July 15.

Aesthetica Magazine invites artists of all levels to apply for their yearly prize. Two categories are awarded, one to emerging artists who are either in school or within two years post graduation and another to artists of all experience levels. Artists may submit up to two works per entry fee. To see full eligibility requirements and award amounts, visit the website. Deadline for submissions is August 31.
