The lazy days of summer are no time to get complacent about your art career. When the heat is on outside, find your way to the nearest computer and search out as many opportunities as you can. Don’t let the lull of vacation time fool you into believing that the art world stops for even one moment – it surely does not and now is the time to plan for what’s next. If you find yourself with a little time on your hands as the mercury continues to rise, what better way to use it than carve out a plan to get your work into the world.
International Mini Print Cantabria invites print makers across all disciplines to submit their work for consideration in this juried competition. The theme is The Sea and the Lighthouses – although this does not dictate that prints must be figurative. There are fees for entry depending on residency within Spain or elsewhere. Prize money is awarded to first through third place with a special award also carrying a cash prize. For more details, visit the website. Deadline for submissions is July 15.
Retirement Call invites young artists to submit their work to an upcoming exhibit with a somewhat unusual theme. In their own words: REALITY CHECK: LIFE AFTER RETIREMENT is an Open Call for new emerging artists focused on the issue of Retirement. We talk about the generations of today, living on the utopy of an inherited model under a collapsing structure. Our intention is to stimulate these new emerging artists to participate in the construction of an artistic, disruptive speech to bring light into this problematic issue. The final objective of the Open Call is to transport the selected works into an exhibition in Lisbon. For more information, visit the website. Deadline for submissions is July 15.
Submissions for the STARVD Art Prize are now open. Emerging artists, particularly those working in painting, drawing, collage, print and photography (or a combination) are encouraged to apply. Selected artists will have their work promoted in a selling exhibition on ARTSY.net in addition to cash prizes and other promotional initiatives. For more information, visit the website. Deadline for submissions is July 20.
