What Gets You Going?

What drives you to move forward? Incentive is perhaps not something artists commonly think of, focusing instead on the innate passion they have for the work they create, but it can be a powerful tool. Locating ways to improve your practice, exposure, experience, revenue – these can not only be important ways to advance your career, but they can serve as personal motivation, prompting you to consider the next phase of your career. Here are some opportunities to get you on the way.

The Clay Studio Resident Artist Program, in their own words, offers individuals the opportunity to further develop their work, to establish professional contacts and standards, and to work within a community of like-minded individuals in an urban environment for up to three years. The program is designed to reflect a range of experiences and diverse aesthetic approaches, cultures and perspectives. The Clay Studio Resident Artist Program assists artists to become successful members of the Philadelphia art community, while making national and international connections. For more information, visit the website. Deadline for applications is March 1.

The Dome House invites artists to apply for the Al & Mickey Quinlan Residency, which, in their own words, is an application-based 8-week program for emerging and mid-career Midwest artists focused in the areas of drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, created and led in partnership with the Miller Art Museum. The 2023 resident is invited to live and work at the Dome House from August 1 to September 25, 2023. The residency serves the broader mission of the Dome House to provide artists working in all mediums with space for creativity, contemplation and inspiration. For more information, visit the website. Deadline is March 1.

Ucross invites artists to apply for residency. Founded in 1983, this residency offers “increasingly rare” uninterrupted time to work and contemplate. Artists from around the U.S. and the world gather in this comfortable, productive and respectful atmosphere that one past resident describes thusly: “There has been no other art experience that has been as wide and deep and solid as the experience of being at Ucross.” For more information and to apply, visit the website. Deadline for applications is March 1.
