Why Aim High?

Every opportunity doesn’t have to be a life-changer. In fact aiming for a lot of smaller things is a fruitful way to fill in the gaps while you continue to pursue the grander ones. No, you might not be chosen for a Guggenheim or a Fullbright this year, there’s no reason not to try. And there’s certainly every reason to apply to any and every other call out there that seems to suit what you’re doing with your art. We say it often because it’s true, you won’t be accepted for any opportunities you don’t apply for. Here are a few you might want to try your luck with:

Rejection is the theme for Cold Bench’s Call for Art 2019. We’ve all been there, whether on the receiving end or the rejecting end. Well now Cold Bench wants to hear about it. All work must either explore the theme of rejection or be a piece of art that was an unsuccessful entry in another show. In other words, a reject. For more information, visit the website. Deadline for submissions is May 20.

Photographers at all levels are invited to submit their portfolios to Dodho Magazine for their 2019 call. This is a chance to showcase your work in an international publication dedicated to sharing the work of talented photographers from around the world. For more details on this open call and to submit your portfolio, visit the website. Deadline for submissions is May 31.

Individual artists as well as group collaborations are invited to submit their proposals to Nordic Summer University. Artists at all levels are invited provided their work in some way aligns with the values of NSU and in some way helps spread “Nordic-ness” across time and space. The call culminates in a mini-festival during summer 2020 to celebrate NSU’s 70th anniversary. For further details, do visit the website. Deadline for proposals is May 31.
