Do You Believe In Yourself?

How’s it going? Are you doing the things you thought you would? If not, what’s holding you back? How can we help? A career in art is a daunting task. You’re up against a profession most people chalk up to nothing more than a hobby. There may be people in your life – even those closest to you – who say it can’t be done. Maybe you’re even telling yourself that. But with the right knowledge and resources, we know it can be done. We’ve seen it. Here are a few opportunities to set you on the right path.

Watershed’s summer residencies provide artists dedicated time in a state-of-the-art ceramics studio. Up to sixteen artists form a creative community during sessions, enjoying 24-hour studio access, comfortable accommodations, and meals. Organizers develop themes, inviting artists to anchor sessions. For more information or to apply for the 2024 summer residency, visit the website. Deadline is February 1.

South Arts offers Individual Artist Career Opportunity Grants to support milestone opportunities in artists’ careers, aiming to overcome financial barriers. Grants of up to $2,000 are available for proposed or completed opportunities between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024. Recipients can still apply for other South Arts funding. The organization prioritizes diversity and encourages applications from artists with disabilities, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ individuals. For more information and to apply, visit the website. Application deadline is February 9.

Mother’s Milk is a flexible 2 to 6-week interdisciplinary residency supporting visual artists, writers, composers, and dancers pursuing innovative, experimental work. Located in a renovated dairy farm on 15 wooded acres in Newton, Kansas, the program fosters collaboration and provides a serene space for creative exploration. For more information and to apply, visit the website. Deadline for the next round of applications is February 10.

Praxis Center not only nurtures artistic careers, we believe in them. And that last part is a big piece of the puzzle. You simply can’t succeed at something if you don’t believe it’s possible. End of story. So let this be your sign to explore our courses, take stock of our resources, and see whether we might be a good fit for you and that career ahead.
