If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a thousand times – be yourself. While this may sound hollow or cliche when it reaches your ears (after all, who else would you be?) it can often be less than instinctive to step forward and let our the true self shine through in all its idiosyncratic glory. No matter who you are as an artist (indeed, as a human being) striving to present your authentic self is always the best practice.
Praxis student Celia recently illustrated in our virtual classroom the importance of this concept. In her own words:
“I’m back, this time was important to practice what I learned here at Praxis Center, and to organize myself, so I can continue. Back.
… last summer, the director of a gallery, paid a visit to my studio. After seeing the works, he only asked two questions: ” what is your job? What is your process?” at this key moment, I focused on what I learned here: ” the gallerists seek sincerity in artists “. I answered the questions and I am invited to a solo exhibition, for 2019. Since June I am Work on the project. Thank you all!“
It takes a good deal of bravery to put your full self out there. To let the world in for a look at what you have to offer. After all, there is no way to predict what the reaction may be.
