How Did You End Up Here?

The decision to make art a career is not an easy one. Those who have never traveled – or even considered – this path may see only the romance of choosing to follow your passion. But the practicalities of an artistic career can feel overwhelming. Not to mention the sometimes noisy chorus of people telling you it simply can’t be done. But we are here to tell you that it can. The Roman J. Witt Residency Program at the University of Michigan supports new creative work, emphasizing the artistic process from conception to completion. The residency includes a 12-week making period and an exhibition at the Stamps Gallery, fostering student engagement. Since 1992, The Watermill Center’s International Summer Program has united global artists for creative exploration. Tulsa Artist Fellowship offers comprehensive support, including a $150,000 stipend and $36,000 housing allowance over three years. Participants enjoy fully subsidized studio space in Tulsa’s Arts and Greenwood Districts, with access to shared facilities valued at $27,000 over three years. Additional benefits include studio assistant stipends, health and wellness support, fitness facilities access, childcare reimbursements, and a $1,500 relocation stipend.
